Michelet, la mer, la Baleine et la femme

In Michelet's vision, the Sea, the Woman, and the Whale are essentially identical in their fundamental maternal characteristics: blood, milk, and love for the beings they engender. We are led to a dual succession of equivalencies: ocean waters, milk, and blood on the one hand; Sea, Whale, and Woman on the other. Michelet spontaneously renews the positive symbolics of water as the source of life. Simultaneously, through a synthesis in depth by which psychic being is incorporated into a cosmic reality, he transposes his profound obsessions, especially his nostalgia for the maternal breast, into powerful and original material images.
