Ecriture et musique dans Les Maîtres Sonneurs de George Sand

George Sand's country novel Les Maîtres Sonneurs is a very interesting book. The melodies, the folklore, the story are influenced by the Orphic myth more than by the life of countrymen. The structure and the events of Joseph Picot's life, the basic protagonist, are built in connection with those of Orpheus. Nevertheless the principal interest of this novel appears in G. Sand's way of writing. Her style heralds Gide, Huxley or Burgess who have also tried to write a story in musical terms. (In French) (JD)
