All in the Family: Liszt, Daniel and Ary Scheffer

Posterity views Franz Liszt as a composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor and cosmopolitan, sophisticated traveler – a virtual citizen of Europe, but hardly a concerned father. In this unpublished letter of Liszt to the painter Ary Scheffer, the composer appears in an unfamiliar role, that of a devoted father eager to assist his young son on the threshold of his professional career.
