Religion et langage dans Le Rouge et le Noir
The article analyses religious symbolism in Stendhal's novel Le Rouge et le Noir, focusing on those aspects that connect the main character, Julien Sorel, to the figure of Christ. This identification is unrelated to faith. The Christ figure symbolizes a certain model of perfection that can only be attained by men who are able to testify against decadent political regimes through the use of language. This is a quality that Julien and the narrator share. Therefore, the novel is an indirect analysis of the power of language in society and the role of literature in history. (In French) (IS)
