Victor Hugo, Juliette Drouet, and an Unpublished Anniversary Letter from 1851
Victor Hugo and Juilette Drouet commemorated the anniversary of the beginning of their affair by writing a series of letters and other messages to each other each February. This letter not only reflects the spirit of this special correspondence, it also documents a significant moment in the lovers' lives, a short time before Hugo's exile, from which other records are limited. In addition, the text demonstrates the skill of Juliette Drouet as a prose stylist in her own right. (DMB)
