Union et désunion avec le père dans Ourika et Edouard de Claire de Duras

Because of their protagonists' common fate (death), femininity, and alienation, Ourika (1823) and Edouard (1824) have been read as metaphors for the female condition. An analysis of the relationship between the protagonist and father figures at the level of story and narration reveals the specificity of each novel. Ourika's complete alienation contrasts with Edouard's posthumous reconciliation with the world of his forefathers.
